SMALL, ex-chief burgess of York Borough, and son of David and Adaline Small, was born August 16, 1843. He is the youngest in a family of four children and is of German origin. He received his education at the York public schools and the York County Academy. At eighteen years he began learning the printer’s trade, and since then his life has been that of a printer and editor, and he is connected with the Gazette Printing Company. The marriage of Mr. Small with Miss Susan Groff was solemnized in 1865. Mrs. Small is also a native of York. They have one child, Emma V. Mr. Small is a thorough Democrat, and for quite a number of years has taken an active part in political affairs. During the years 1881 and 1882 he was a member of the town council. In 1883 he was elected chief burgess and re-elected in 1884. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and I. O. R. M.
