In 1875 Dr. Sterner married Lydia Spangler, daughter of Bernard and Susan (Asper) Spangler, of Jackson Township. Five children have been born of this marriage: Maggie G., Flora (deceased), Joseph F., Edward M. and Charles Austin. Dr. Sterner was reared on a farm.
