His parents were John and Catharine (Garver) Strickler, of Hellam Township. He was reared on the farm in Hellam Township, is the eldest son, and was educated at subscription schools. He was married to Elizabeth Dietz, daughter of George Dietz, of York County, and had three children: Alfred (living), Ellen (deceased) and Anna (deceased). The farm on which he resides contains 190 acres of well improved land.
