Battey Publishing Co., 1886. _______________________________________________ Part II, Biographical Sketches, Spring Garden Township, Pg 194 PHILIP WILLIAMS is a son of Philip and Elizabeth (Crone) Williams, natives respectively of Hellam and Manchester Townships, York County. His father was a cooper, shoe-maker, and farmer, and died in 1877, aged eighty-nine years. Our subject was born November 27, 1816, and for forty-four years has been following agricultural pursuits. He is the owner of two excellent farms, one situated in Hellam Township, consisting of 131 acres, and one of thirty-five acres in Spring Garden Township. He also owns a tract of land, consisting of ten acres in Pleasureville. He was married, January 9, 1840, to Miss Magdalen Smyser, daughter of Christian Smyser, of Manchester Township. Mrs. Williams was born August 1, 1814. They have had five children: Anna M. and Susan (deceased), George H., Clara A. and Leah A.
