I intend to have this book printed this winter. It will be hardbound and indexed. This follows the TINKEY TREE from the boat that Jacob Tinkey came to America on through PA, to OH, to IN, IA, GA, SC, AL, WA, MO and many other states. Many Tinkeys and descendants still live in other PA counties. For more information contact Floyd B. Bennett JACOB TINKEY Note: I presume Jacob was at least 21 years old when he took the oath of allegiance in 1743, so, I have about 1722 as his birth year, and since he is not in records after 1/9/1773, he must have died shortly thereafter. Colonial America, p. 442, 1739, Jacob, Philadelphia Co. Philadelphia, PA. Census Index Make no mistake about it- I have JACOB 0. TINKEY''S signed allegiance paper, although he signed it FINKEY, I make the T & the F the same way, only crossing the T to make it an F. He may have inadvertently crossed the T so it looks like an F. So, in 1743, TINK.EY is the proper spelling. The passenger list shows he did not sign his own name, and that someone else signed for him and he put an 0 next to his 1st name. It reads, Jacob Finkey/Fincky arrived in Philadelphia on board the ship Rosanna, James Reason captain, from Rotterdam via Cowes, England, and took the oaths of allegiance with the other adult male passengers from that voyage at the (old) courthouse in Phila. on 9/26/1743. The list for that voyage notes that the passengers were from WITTENBURG (sic) Turloch- "DURLACH' and SWITZERLAND. Variations in the spelling are rampant. It is Duenke, Duncky, Dunki, Dinky, Dunke, Dunkel, Duncky, Dinkey, Denkey, Daenky, Dunge, Tinckey, Tinke, Tenkey, Tinkey, Tinckey. The in the Baptismal Records on HENDRICK TINKEY in the church of West Hemstead (Called" "Brick Church"), ROCKLAND, NY, the spelling goes: Tinke, Tinckie, Tincke, Tnike, Toncke. These are members of Hendrick's family. Official Records usually show TINKEY as the proper spelling, such as the first U.S. Census in 1790. (An umlaut over the U is used most times, when the "Du" spelling is used). Baptism records in Shrewsbury Twp, York Co, PA Vital Records, show: Maria, b. 11/13/1753, Baptized 4/7/1754, Her parents' Jacob Tinkey and Anna Landert, Johnnes, b. 2/27/1772, Jacob Georg, b. 3/13/1773 and, Conrad, b. 6/25/1781. Shrewsbury Township, York Co., Pa., in 1779, Deed book D, 2E, pp. 405-6, 1/9/1773 Jacob & Ann "Dinkey" gave their Shrewsbury land to ONLY SON JOHN, on condition that he will take care of them for life. Jacob mentions other children but gives no names (Must be Girls). Each to be paid 30 pounds apiece if he sells the Plantation. I have found one daughter: Maria, b. in '. 754 in those Vital Records. This land was surveyed on 9/15/1784 but John died intestate and the warrent was issued to Frederick Ault and Philip Black in trust for the heirs. In York Co. Pa., both John Tinkey & John Miller are listed as residents of Shrewsbury Township in 1779, and at the court house in Deed Book d, 2E, pp. 405- 6, dated 1/9/1773, Jacob and Anna "Dinkey" give their Shrewsbury land to their ONLY son, John, on condition that he will take care of them for life.
