Another turnpike was built from Hanover to the Maryland line and completed in 1812. What is known in Hanover as the Carlisle and the Baltimore turnpikes constituted the most important route of travel for stages and wagoning for 60 years. As many as 50 Conestoga teams are reported to have remained over night at Hanover at one time on the way to Baltimore or the return trip. – Carlisle Sentinel.
