Battey Publishing Co., 1886. _______________________________________________ THE VILLAGE OF STRINESTOWN – Page 681 This town, which originated in 1800, was for many years called Mount Pleasant. It is pleasantly situated ten miles from York, near the northern part of the township, and has two or three stores, a hotel and a population of 160. The manufacture of cigars has been an important industry here for half a century. The property owners of the village in 1819, were George King; Widow Miller; Charles Heyer; Peter Redman; Charles Lindeman; Frederick Miller; Frederick Hevel, inn keeper; Martin Shetter; John Strine, cordwainer; Henry Miller, inn keeper; Elizabeth Zorger; Frederick Stoner, justice of the peace; Christian Strine; Godfrey Lenhart; Jacob Zorger, wheelwright; Jacob Wolf, tobacconist; Conrad Sandreman; Jacob Keyer, cordwainer; Widow Weyer. Jacob Stoehr, of Manchester Township owned one house, and George Neuman, one. Michael Weyer was a blacksmith. In the war of 1812 he was at Baltimore.
