The followers of John Winebrenner had, for a number of years, prospered by increasing their number at the encouraging meetings held in “the River Schoolhouse,” near Goldsboro. Some of the members determined to build a church in “the valley,” and in 1849, Michael Burger deeded to William Kremer, Samuel Kister and Daniel Shelley, a plat of ground upon which the church was built the next year. The congregation that worships here belongs to the East York Circuit, and is served by the same ministers that preach in Goldsboro. A Sunday-school has regularly been held in this church, superintended of late years by John Nicholas, Howard Nicholas and Henry Fortenbaugh.
