Mr. Beidler married Mary Elizabeth Bahn in 1859. At the beginning of 1861, they had one child, Cordelia (8 1/2 months). Mr. Beidler's daughter Cordelia was my mother's grandmother. My mother's maiden name was Helen Edith Frey (née Edith Helen Frey). The Beidlers lived in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, a small community on the Susquehanna River. Mr. Beidler owned a lumberyard. He reached 25 years of age on this February 10th. I have reproduced his diary as faithfully as possible. My primary aim has been to preserve the flavor of the diary without distracting the reader. To do this, I have altered his use of capital letters and added punctuation. I made this transcription to preserve his diary for his descendants, historians, genealogists, and anyone else who enjoys going back in time to a quieter, simpler world.
