Mr. Beidler married Mary Elizabeth Bahn in 1859. At the beginning of this year, their children were Cordelia (4) and Harry (3). Mr. Beidler's daughter Cordelia was my mother's grandmother. My mother's maiden name was Helen Edith Frey (née Edith Helen Frey). The Beidlers lived in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, a small community on the Susquehanna River. Mr. Beidler owned a lumberyard. He reached 29 years of age on this February 10th. I have reproduced his diary as faithfully as possible. My primary aim has been to preserve the flavor of the diary without distracting the reader. To do this, I have altered his use of capital letters and added punctuation. The day and date headings appear here almost exactly as they appear in the original diary. Entries that Mr. Beidler crossed out are shown with lines drawn through them, to preserve the essence of the original work. I made this transcription to preserve his diary for his descendants, historians, genealogists, and anyone else who might enjoy going back in time to a quieter, simpler world.
