WILLIAM BUELL, born in York, Pa., February 27, 1823. Graduated at West Point 1843. Served in the Mexican war and became captain, 1857. Colonel of 12th U.S. Infantry, 1861. Brevetted brigadier in June, 1862, and major-general March, 1865. Commanded a brigade at Bull Run, and led 6th army corps through Peninsula. Engaged at South Mountain, and led left grand division at Fredericksburg, December 13, 1862. Commanded 19th corps in Red River expedition. Wounded April, 1864, and resigned commission in 1866 to engage in manufacture of fire-arms. Manager of National Soldier's Home, 1880.
