All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com January 30, 2007, 12:33 pm Pension Application Of George Bailey, National Archives Microseries M804, Roll __, Application #S23523 York County, Pennsylvania} Personally appeared before me, one of the judges of the Court of Common Pleas, George Bailey, a resident of said county, aged 72 years: That he was drafted in York County about the 1st of July 1776 in Captain Long’s company of militia in Colonel Swopes’ battalion for three months in the Revolutionary War, and marched from York to Lancaster, from thence to Philadelphia and to Trenton and Brunswick, from thence to Amboy and then Newark, the state of New Jersey, and duly served out the time for which he was drafted, and was honorably discharged at Newark in the month of October in the year 1776. That in the fall of the year 1782, he was again drafted to serve in Captain Furry’s company in the county of York under Major Austin to guard, watch ____ and secure the British prisoners taken with General Cornwallis at a place called Camp Security in the county aforesaid and served three months, and was honorably discharged by Captain Furry about the first of September in the same year, and that he served altogether at least six months in the army of the Revolution. I further declare that I have no documentary evidence in my possession, nor do I know of any person living whose testimony I can procure to prove my service except Philip Wagoner…etc. Where and when were you born? I was born in York County, Pennsylvania in the year 1762. Have you any record of your age, and if so, where is it? I have no record of my age. Where were you living when called into service, where have you lived since the Revolutionary War, and where do you now live? I lived in York County when called into service, and have lived in York County ever since the Revolution. How were you called into service? Were you drafted, were you a volunteer or were you a substitute for someone? I was drafted. I was not acquainted with any of the regular officers. I was acquainted with Colonel Swope and several of the officers belonging to his battalion, to wit: Captain Dutt, Captain ____, and Captain Spangle (and Captain Long under whom he served.)
