All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com January 30, 2007, 12:50 pm Pension Application Of John Baker, National Archives Microseries M804, Roll __, Application #S22631 York County, Pennsylvania} On this 9th day of April, 1834, personally appeared in open court before the Court of Common Pleas in and for said county of York in the state of Pennsylvania, John Baker, a resident of said county of York, PA aged 76 years and uwards…: That on or about the 1st of May, 1776, he volunteered in Baltimore to serve in Captain Talbott’s company of infantry for three months [the colonel’s name he has forgot] and served in said corps for four months or more, and was then discharged at Annapolis by Captain Talbott. That in the fall of the year 1781, he volunteered to serve in York County at a place called Camp Security to guard, watch and keep down the British prisoners taken with General Cornwallis, and that he served at said fort or stockade in the years 1811 and 12 four months under Major Bailey, commanding officer at Fort Security, and that he served altogether almost eight months in the army of the Revolution, and that he further declares that I have no documentary evidence in my possession…etc. Where and when were you born? I was born in Baltimore County, MD in the year 1758. Have you any record of your age, and if so, where is it? I have no Bible record of my age. Where were you living when called into service, where have you lived since the Revolutionary War, and where do you now live? I lived in Baltimore County, MD when called into service the first time. The second time I was called into service I was in York County, PA and have lived in York County ever since the Revolutionary War. How were you called into service? Were you drafted, were you a volunteer or were you a substitute for someone? I volunteered. I do not recollect the names of any of the regular officers….
