The District Court of the County of York in the state of Pennsylvania now setting, Philip Gohn, aged 77 years, a resident of said County of York of said state, who first being duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration: That on the __ day of July, 1776, he enlisted in Captain Dritt’s company and Colonel Swopes' battalion for six months and marched from York County where he enlisted, to Lancaster; from Lancaster to Philadelphia, from thence to Trenton and Princeton, in the state of New Jersey; from thence to Amboy and Brunswick, from thence to Elizabethtown and Newark, from thence to Fort Lee and was there when Fort Washington was taken; and then marched to Trenton, and from thence crossed the Delaware River into the state of Pennsylvania, where he remained until he served six months, the time from which he enlisted and was honorably discharged by his lieutenant. Captain Dritt was taken prisoner, at Fort Washington, and Colonel Swope. That he was drafted in the month of October about the first of the month, to the best of his recollection, to serve two months in the year 1781 to guard, watch and keep secure the British prisoners in Camp Security in the County of York and served two months, Captain Bailey’s and was honorably discharged by Captain Bailey. That he served two months as a substitute at Camp Security, commencing on or about 1st of June, 1782 for George ?Wienholt in Captain Pennington’s company and was honorably discharged by Captain Pennington in August of the same year. That he volunteered to serve two months at Camp Security in the County of York to guard the British prisoners taken with General Cornwallis and was a substitute about the first of September 1782 and served as a substitute for two months in Captain Bailey’s company under Major Austin. He was then a substitute for Jacob Dollinger, and that he duly served out the time fore which he engaged and was honorably discharged by Captain Bailey at Camp Security in November of the same year, and that he served, at least altogether, one year in the Army of the Revolution. I further declare that I have no documentary evidence in my possession, nor do I know of any persons now living whose testimony can provide to prove my service, except John ?Kroan?… 1. I was born in York County in the [year] 1757. 2. I have a record of my age in my possession. 3. I lived in York County when called into service, and have lived in said county ever since the Revolutionary War. 4. The first time I served, I enlisted for six months in Captain Dritt’s company and duly served out the time _____. I was drafted for two months in Captain Bailey’s company at Camp Security. The third time I served was for two months for George Weinholt, for whom I was a substitute. The fourth time I served was for Jacob Dellinger, for whom I was substituted for two months at Camp Security and duly served out term. That I served at least, altogether, one year in the Revolutionary War. 5. I do not recollect any of the officers’ names of the regular army. I was acquainted with Colonel Swope, Captain Dritt, Captain Long, Captain Smyser and Captain Spangler, all belonging to Colonel Swope’s battalion. 6.
