All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com August 15, 2006, 2:16 am Pension Application Of Adam Quickel, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll #__, Application #S11274 Allegheny County, Virginia, June 16, 1834, Adam Quickel, aged 79 years and was born in 1755: “That he was born in the County of York in the state of Pennsylvania, and that he was drafted in the company commanded by Thomas Manarie or Manare [it was actually McNary, and has been spelled so by the descendants ever since] as his Captain, and marched to the city of New York in the month of October 1775 when he joined the main army under the command of General George Washington. Andrew ?Slate acted as a lieutenant in the company to which this applicant was attached (the names of the other officers and regiment not now recollected).” “During this applicant’s first tour of duty, he served the full term of two months, when he was discharged and returned home to the said county of York, where he remained about ?twelve? months, when he was again drafted in the company commanded by Captain ?Eston (his given name not now recollected) and was marched to the city of Philadelphia where he joined the army and was subsequently at and engaged in the Battle of Brandywine where General Washington was in command (this applicant, owing to the lapse of time and loss of memory, cannot now recollects the names of the other officers in command, or the regiment to which he was attached. This applicant, in this his second tour of duty, served the full of two months.” “This applicant was permitted to remain at home about two years after his return from his second tour of duty, when he was again drafted in the fall of 1781 and marched in the company commanded by Captain Henry Moore, to the town of Little York, to guard the soldiers taken from Cornwallis which had been stationed at that place. During this, the applicant’s third tour of duty, he served the further term of two months, when he was again discharged and returned to his home, where he resided until the year 1800 and then removed to the county of Rockingham, VA where he resided for a short time, then moved into the County of Pendleton, where he resided for about 6 years, when he removed to the county of Botetourt, here he resided until the division of said ___, and has ever since lived in the county of Allegheny.” “This applicant is far advanced in life and living at a great distance from the place of his nativity, knows of no person who can prove the above services.
