That in the beginning of the war, about the year 1776, marched from York County aforesaid to New Jersey and was engaged as a soldier in the Flying Camp until he was discharged. That the service he performed was similar to that performed by John Stroman of York County aforesaid, who is now dead and who drew a United States pension and that her husband was in service with said Stroman.” “That he was afterwards drafted as a militia man and engaged guarding prisoners taken from the English and brought into this county, but how long he was engaged in this service she does not know, nor does she know the names of his officers. That about the beginning of 1778 he acted as a guard to the prisoners taken from Burgoyne and in that capacity marched to Albemarle, Virginia, and after remaining there some time, was discharged and returned home. She further declares that she cannot give a clear narrative of her husband’s service but believes that altogether was in service 8 months and a half.” “That she was married to said Spangler about the 5th day of July, 1789, as will appear by the proof hereunto annexed. That her husband the said Spangler died about the 21 of October, 1831.
