Thos. H. Wright and Jas. Morrison of Constitution, attempted to split a log by a powder blast. They bored a hole and filling it too full of powder, cleaned some of it out, leaving some scattered on the log. Having fixed the blast, they attempted to light the fuse when the scattered powder became ignited and instantly communicated to the powder in the blast. There was a sudden explosion and the two men, one on each side of the log, were struck by the flying timbers. Mr. Wright was badly bruised from head to foot and could not get his breath for some time. His face also was cut with the powder. Mr. Morrison was struck in the stomach. Both were severely hurt.
