W. Wortz and wife, of Maple Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. William Gerberich, of Birdsboro, Berks County, are guests of Samuel Potteiger and wife, of York Street. George W. Wortz, of Maple Avenue, returned home this morning from a visit to his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Spangler, at Iron Springs, Adams County. Howard Shultz, of Carlisle Street, who has been spending the last four weeks with his uncle, George Slagle, in Oxford Township, for the benefit of his health, is improving. He spent last evening in Hanover. Hon. W. H. Long was circulating among friends in York last evening. He is a member of the degree team of Warrior Eagle Council and assisted in the initiation of a class into the mysteries of Nittaunis Council, No. 97, Daughters of Pocohontas, I. O. R. M.--York Daily. Moving to Hanover. J. A. Spangler, of Iron Springs, will move his family to Hanover next week, occupying a house of George W. Wortz, on Maple Avenue. Mr. Spangler will clerk in Mr. Wortz's store, on Fountain Square. Samuel Wine, wife and daughter, yesterday moved from Bachman's Valley to the residence of Jacob B. Wentz, on Baltimore Street, where they will reside until repairs can be made at their house, on Baltimore Street, in shich S. C. Garber now resides. The Sick. A. J. Gulden, of New Oxford, continues to improve. William Brandstaedter, of East Middle Street, is improving. Jesse Rice, of Pennville, remains in quite critical condition. Mrs. Eliza Isaacs, of Frederick Street, who has been quite ill since Sunday, passed a bad night last night and was not improved this afternoon. Mrs. J. Luther Gallatin, of York, wife of the proprietor of the Boston Store, is quite seriously ill. Mrs. Gallatin is a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Daniel Schindler, of this place. E. H. Hostetter, of West Chestnut Street, has accepted a position as salesman in the dry goods department of H. W. Miller's store. H. W. Miller has purchased a large portion of the stock of Stine & Bollinger, recently dissolved. Mr. Bollinger, however, continues the business. The Mite Society of Emmanuel's Reformed Church will meet tomorrow afternoon at the home of J. Wesley Myers and wife, of Baltimore Street. Solomon Swartz, of Conowago Twp., has been appointed by the Adams County Court, a Jury Commissioner, in place of John A. Sell, removed from the county. Dr. Swallow's paper, the Commonwealth, so poorly supported by his followers during the recent campaign, has been sold to Edwin K. Hart, of Philadelphia. J. F. Bucher, broker, will have a public sale of local stocks at the Central Hotel, on Monday evening next, at 8 o'clock. Watch for the advertisement in Thursday's papers. Charles W. Sayers and Claude C. Craver, employees, have been admitted to the well-known hardware and grocery firm of McClellan & Gotwalt, of York, the new title of the firm being McClellan and Gotwalt Co. Limited. New Store's Opening. Elmer E. Wentz will have the formal opening of his new cash dry goods store, at the corner of Baltimore Street and Fountain Square, this evening, when the store will be kept open until 10 o'clock. A large new stock of goods, comprising all the staples and many of the novelties in his line, have been placed on the shelves, while the store-room has been entirely renovated and refitted. Mr. Wentz is a careful and painstaking business man, possessed of commendable enterprise and considerable experience, and a large array of friends will hope for him a successful career. Officers Elected. The Kappa Phi Kappa Club met last night at their room on Abbottstown Street, and elected the following officers: President - J. Samuel Fitz. Vice President - George Henry. Recording Secretary - Charles D. Keller. Corresponding Secretary - H. U. Miller. Treasurer - John Krebs. Entertained Friends. Miss Carrie Young, of Abbottstown Street, last evening entertained a few friends at a card party at her home. Those present were: Misses Grace Newcomer, Ethel Hamm, Jessie Hamm and Lizzie Forney; William Boadenhamer, Jr., E. Fred. Carver, Clinton Myers, Reuhl Swartz and Edward Critzman.
