Robert Frey, of York, spent Sunday with his wife here. J. Milton Young, of Pleasant Street, was at York this morning. George Clippinger spent Sunday with his parents in New Oxford. Miss Marion Bange, of Franklin Street, is visiting friends in York. Henry M. Strine, of Red Land, transacted business in Hanover to-day. Harvey Lillich, of Abbottstown, spent Sunday with friends in this place. Harry Plymire, of New Oxford, transacted business in Hanover this morning. John C. Emlet, of Franklin Street, was at New Oxford, this afternoon, on business. Edward J. Frysinger, of the Philadelphia Press, spent Sunday with friends in town. Michael Hoffbeins and wife, of near New Oxford, were in town shopping on Saturday afternoon. Hon. D. S. Dubs, of Marburg, left this morning on a trip to Harrisburg and Philadelphia. O. W. Garrett, of Bandana, is spending several days at York, looking after his political fences. Guy Stover, of York, spent Sunday with his parents, F. W. Stover and wife, of Carlisle Street. Misses Ida Sunday and Helen Ruth, of East Middle Street, spent the day with friends at New Oxford. Elias Spangler, of Pleasant Street, left this morning on a business trip to Arendtsville and other points. Howard Teaman, of New Chester, spent Sunday with his brother, Edward Teaman, of East Middle Street. Clarence Folmer, of York, spent Sunday with his parents, John Folmer and wife, of East Middle Street. Jerome Melborn, of Baltimore Street, went to York this morning to serve as a juryman during the week. Joshua Flickinger, of Baltimore Street, left this morning on a business trip through the Cumberland Valley. Dr. Rufus Weaver, of Philadelphia, was the guest of his brother, Peter S. Weaver, of York Street, Saturday. Alvin L. Menges and wife, of Menges' Mills, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Tanger, of York Street. Henry E. McCosh, of Mercersburg College, spent Sunday with his parents, C. R. McCosh and wife, of West Chestnut Street. Mrs. Dr. R. N. Meisenhelder, of Frederick Street, attended the funeral of her aunt, Mrs. Spahr, at Woodsboro, Md., to-day. Harvey Gobrecht and wife, of East Middle Street, left this morning for Harrisburg, where they will visit friends for a few days. J. Frank Frysinger, of Carlisle Street, and Misses Grace Shriver and Miriam Welsh, of Baltimore Street, will be among the Hanoverians who will witness the comic opera, El Capitan, at York, this evening. BRIEF MENTION. A bicycle theft is operating in York. Emmanuel's Reformed Mite Society will meet at the home of Mrs. Louisa Grove, on York Street, on Friday evening. John F. Rohrbaugh ahs the contract for the erection of a dwelling house on Locust Street for Mrs. George Mummert. The Sewing Circle of Trinity Reformed Church will meet on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Edward W. Garrett, on Walnut Street. The Ladies' Aid Society of the Third Lutheran Church, will meet at the home of Mrs. Samuel Michael, on Carlisle Street, to-morrow evening. John Cover, who has been living with his sister, Mrs. Eli Basehoar, in Union Township, Adams County, has been arrested on the charge of sending criminal letters to neighbors. U. S. Marshal Foster took him to Gettysburg where U. S. Commissioner Walter committed him to answer before the U. S. District Court at Philadelphia.
