Miss Edich Blecher, of Littlestown, is visiting Hanover friends. Mrs. D. A. Miller and daughter, Mrs. P. G. Duncan, of Abbottstown, spent the day here. Miss Irene Gemmill, of Westminster, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Martin Moul, of Walnut Street. E. Fullerton Cook, of Philadelphia, is visiting his parents, Rev. and Mrs. H. S. Cook, of Baltimore Street. Mrs. Walter Long and Mrs. Dennis, of York, were guests to-day of Hon. and Mrs. W. H. Long, of York Street. Mrs. Harry Culp, of York, left for home to-day after a brief visit here as the guest of Miss Bertha Eckert, of Franklin Street. Miss Sallie H. Miller and Charles H. Miller, of Shepherdstown, W. Va., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Miller, of York Street. Mrs. B. M. Wentz, Miss Martha Fisher and Miss Henrietta Wise, left this morning for Washington. Mrs. Wentz and Miss Fisher will spend a week with friends, and Miss Wise will remain with her sisters during the winter. George Bowers, of Pittsburg, who was hurt by a railroad train in that city some time ago, and who has been recuperating at the home of his parents, George Bowers and wife, of Orchard Street, has left for Pittsburg to resume his work as a switchman. BRIEF MENTION. A slate quarry has been opened in Hellam Township near Stony Brook, modern machinery being installed. Adam Bange, of York Street, has sold six building lots on Fair Avenue, to Rev. Joseph Price, of York Street extended, on private terms. A plum tree in the yard at the home of N. B. Carver, on Frederick Street, has a second crop of fruit this fall. There were few of the plums but they were fine ones. H. D. Gilbert, of York, lost a pocketbook containing $83 in cash and some valuable papers. The pocketbook and papers were returned, but the finder retained the money. The first meeting of the season of the Beethoven Club will be held tomorrow evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Zouck, York Street. A short programme will be rendered.
