Waltemyer. [Orwig, Aug. 23] Charles Hedrick is spending a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hedrick, Shrewsbury. [Orwig, Aug. 23] Mrs. Clayton Bose, is spending a few days at Manchester, the guest of her mother, who is confined to her bed by sickness. [Orwig, Aug. 23] Miss Lina Gebb has returned home after spending a few days in Glen Rock, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. William Gantz. [Orwig, Aug. 23] Mrs. Mary Kopple and Miss Elizabeth Alvatters, of Baltimore, have returned home after spending some time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Hannigan. [Cly, Aug. 23] Edward Loucks, of Harrisburg, spent yesterday as a guest at the Wilson hotel. Miss Bessie Hurst, of York, is spending a few days at the home of Lemuel S. Hake and family. She is accompanied by her mother. C.I. Saylor made a shipment of onions over the Maryland and Pennsylvania railroad today. The price paid was 25 cents a bushel. Garfield Gemmill left today for Reading, Pa., where he will attend the state convention of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, as a representative of the P.O.S. of A. camp at Cross Roads. Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Knisely visited at Hanover Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. Norman Zarfos, of Chicago, and P.O. Diehl and family, of York, were visiting at the home of M.U. Diehl and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Grove and children, Harold and Doretha, and W.E. Saylor, of York, visited here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Akins today. H.C. Richardson, of Fawn Grove who had charge of the Maryland and Pennsylvania railroad office at this place last week, has returned to his home. N.T. Logan, after his vacation has assumed charge again. Miss Mary Jenkins, of Norrisville, Md., is spending some time here at the parsonage of the United Evangelical church, the guest of the Rev. A.M. Jenkins and family. Lillie Flinchbaugh, Gertrude Kohler, Edna Grim, Orella Sechrist, Elsie Wise and S.S. Grove attended the excursion to Baltimore on Saturday. Miss Rebecca Snyder, of Muddy Creek Forks, spent the past two days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Hershner. Miss Anna Coughton, Trenton, N.J., is being entertained by the Rev. and Mrs. U.E. Apple. Mrs. Robert B. Reheard and daughter Dorothy, Harrisburg, have returned home after spending some time at the home of Mrs. Reheard’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Deitz. Lewis Pyle has resigned his position at the Red Lion Table factory and has accepted a position at the South Bethlehem Steel works. Mr. Pyle entered upon his new duties this morning. W.H. Householder, residing on North Franklin street, has a potato stalk in his garden measuring more than five feet in height. Miss Sally Gladfelter, of Glen Rock, and Carl Austin, Dallastown, and Mrs. M.S. Heindle and daughters, Velma and Marie, are being entertained by Mrs. E.E. Tyson of this place. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Those from here who attended the Trout annual reunion at Rocky Spring park, Lancaster county, on Saturday, were: Mrs. A.W. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Brooks and children Edward and Minnie, M.L. Duncan, Mrs. Maurice Davis, Mrs. George McGinnis and daughter Mary and son Leroy, and Mr. and Mrs. Everitt Wiley. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Ranit and her daughter, Miss Roger Bell Johnson, arrived here on Saturday evening and are guests of Mrs. Ranit’s sister, Mrs. T.R. Woodford. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mr. and Mrs. James Galbreath and Messrs. W.S. and C.C. Galbreath left recently for the Panama exposition, at San Francisco. They intend remaining a month, returning home by a northern route. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] H.C. Merryman and daughter Miss Grace, of Constitution, are spending Monday and Tuesday in Baltimore. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mrs. Charles Green, Mr. and Mrs. John Green and daughter Mildred, and Edward Green, of Kingsville, Baltimore county, formed an auto party to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Colgan, returning home on Sunday. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Misses Laura and Elizabeth Sechrist, who have been spending a few weeks with their grandmother, Mrs. Laura Sechrist, and their aunt, Mrs. John Anderson left yesterday for Hopewell, where they will visit relatives before returning to their home in Dallastown. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Miss Evelyn Morris is suffering from a sore foot caused by jumping on a board with two nails protruding, which penetrated her foot. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Miss Jeanette Hawkins left on Friday for Uniontown, Md., where she will spend a few weeks at the home of her grandfather, the Rev. T.H. Wright. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clement, Miss Helen Clement, Miss Kirk and L.E. Devilbiss attended the Highland grange picnic on Friday. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] S.J. Webb, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Channell and son Va…e, and Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Wise made a round trip to Baltimore and Riverview, on Saturday in Mr. Webb’s machine. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Olin Mitzel, of Philadelphia, is a guest at the home of his father, Jacob Mitzel. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Miss Emma Trout, of Hopewell, spent yesterday at the home of her cousin, Mrs. J.W. Brooks. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mrs. Robert Reeser and three children, of Cly, spent a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Burkins. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mrs. Martha Larue, of York, spent last week with her cousins, Mrs. Mary E. Davis and Mrs. Estelle Marsteller. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] B.F. Morris, Miss Annetta Morris, and Miss Grace Duncan, spent Saturday in York. [Fawn Grove, Aug. 23] Mr. and Mrs. John B. Jamison gave a party at their home, on Saturday evening, in honor of their daughter, Miss Marion, who celebrated her birthday anniversary. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Snyder, of near Sunnyside, were entertained for several days at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Amspacher. Mrs. Sarah Messersmith entertained at her home over the weekend her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Messersmith, of Stewartstown. On account the storm and flood which prevailed here several weeks go, residents of this town have made considerable improvements to their properties. On Manchester street where the most damage was done by the flood concrete coverings over the creek are replacing the wooden ones. Such improvements are being made to the properties occupied by L.A. Seitz and W.T. Snyder. Alvin Krebs, during the past week raised a frame barn on his property two fee. [Tolna, Aug. 23] Miss Pauline McClain, of York, who has been visiting relatives and friends at this place has returned home. [Tolna, Aug. 23] The Rev. and Mrs. Chauncey Day, of Lauraville, Md., who have been visiting at the former’s brother, Bertram Day, left today for Westminster, MD., where they will visit the latter’s mother. [Tolna, Aug. 23] S.F.F. Sheffer, who became sick on Sunday, in improved in condition. [Tolna, Aug. 23] Miss Margaret Miller, of Philadelphia, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Bartenslager. [Tolna, Aug. 23] Miss Nellie McKinley, of York, and sister, Mrs. Clayton Schnell and daughter Arlean, of Shrewsbury, spent part of last week visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kashner. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] George Kenney, of this place, while employed in the factory of Stacey, Schmidt and Company, York, had two toes on his right left* foot mashed this afternoon, when a heavy iron gate was let down on them. He was removed to the office of Dr. King who dressed the injuries, after which he returned home. * this is the way it was written… [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Horace Schindler is confined to his home by an attack of indigestion. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Charles Cramer, an aged man, on Saturday suffered an attack of acute indigestion. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Mrs. Lindo Bricker and son Nevin returned home after spending a week with friends in Abbottstown and East Berlin. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Miss Olive Hayes daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hayes, in spending two weeks at the home of her aunt, Mrs. David Snyder, at Hallam. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] J.W. Minnich, president of the First National bank, and son Chauncey, and J.T. Fidler will start on an extended automobile trip tomorrow, visiting Reading, Allentown, Bethlehem, Straudsburg, Delaware Water Gap and other points. They will spend the week. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Miss Eva Reed returned home from Philadelphia, yesterday, where she spent her annual vacation. She was accompanied home by Mrs. Bruce and daughter. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] P.G. Shaw, cigar manufacturer, is confined to bed by sickness. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] William Reigart, contractor, with a force of employees, left this morning for Baltimore, where they are engaged on work. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Mrs. Gertrude Helm returned home yesterday from near Stewartstown, where she has been spending the past two weeks. Her husband remained on the farm there, where he secured employment. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] The Busy Bee Sewing circle met on Saturday evening at the home of Mary Peters; when the following officials were elected: President, Mary Peters; vice president, Mary Flinchbaugh; treasurer, Mildred Flo Stabley; secretary, Martha Leber; recording secretary, Clara Slenker; assistant secretary, Isabelle McDowell; pianist, Lucian Smith; assistant pianist, Ethel Slenker. In addition to the election of officers a splendid literary program was rendered and refreshments were served. The next regular meeting will be held on Aug. 27, at the home of Mildred Stabley. [Dallastown, Aug. 23] Sprenkle’s Union Sunday school will hold a social on the lawn surrounding the country home of D.F. Tarbet, on Tuesday evening. If the weather is unfavorable it will not be held until Wednesday evening. Peaches Unusually Big - Some 15 inches in circumference on farm near Hanover Junction Hanover Junction, Aug. 23 – Peaches grown on the farm of C.P. Kibbler, near here, have attained an unusual size and some measured 15 inches in circumference. One of them which measures 12 inches was on exhibition today at a local store. Despite their large size the fruit has an excellent flavor. Mr. Kibbler, who owns one of the largest peach orchard in the county, every day ships large quantities of the fruit to city markets. Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Henry, Leonard Henry, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Henry and son Edward yesterday made an automobile trip to Hanover, to view the damage done by the cyclone of Saturday. Beaver Creek Overflows - Damage by Heavy Rain in Vicinity of Alpine Alpine, Aug. 23. – One of the heaviest rain storms in several years passed over this section on Saturday evening doing considerable damage. Cellars were flooded, a number of small bridges, fences, and other material swept away. Beaver creek overflowed its banks making the roads impassable. At Wentz’s farm the water completely covered the iron bridge and at the Bentzel farm the road was under water for a considerable distance. Mr. and Mrs. Mearl Bailets and two children who were returning to their home from a visit to Mrs. Bailet’s parents, at Dover, attempted to drive through but were compelled to turn around and seek shelter for the night in Alpine. They stopped with Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Laird. The next day they were able to drive home. [Alpine, Aug. 23] The potato crop promises to be a good one this Fall, M.C. Crone, local trucker, has already taken out nearly 300 bushels and he expects his crop to yield him about 500 bushels. [Alpine, Aug. 23] Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Pandell spent Monday in York. [Alpine, Aug. 23] Mrs. John Craul, of Gerard, Ohio, who spent last week visiting Mr. Craul’s mother, and other friends here, returned to her home on Sunday. [Alpine, Aug. 23] Mrs. Henry Kimmel, of Bowmansdale, spent several days with her sister, Mrs. Sarah Traver, last week. [Alpine, Aug. 23] Harvey Seifert and daughter, of York, spent several days with friends here recently. [Alpine, Aug. 23] Misses Clara and Vernie Shaffer were guests of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Frantz, on Saturday and Sunday. [York Haven, Aug. 23] George Repman, R.D. No. 1, has completed the harvesting of his oats crop which has yielded him an average of 79 bushels per acre. [York Haven, Aug. 23] Miss Gertrude Freeman, York, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gray, York Haven, R.D. No. 1.
