The charges of shoplifting brought last Monday evening against Mrs. Helen Eyler, Ridge avenue, this place, and Mrs. Annie Ransley, Philadelphia, following their apprehension by Chief of Police Jesse Crabbs, with several dresses and other wearing apparel in their possession, were withdrawn last evening before Justice of the Peace L. D. Sell, and the defendants were discharged. The two women had been arrested in the J. W. Gitt department store and were charged with shoplifting in three warrants, sworn by Squire Sell on oath of L. D. Nutter, Manager of the J. C. Penney Company’s store, Irvin C. Kelley of the J. W. Gitt Company, and Chief of Police Crabbs, for the Topper Overbaugh Company. The women, it was charged, had taken dresses valued at $74.25 from the Penney store, a dress valued at $18 from the Topper Overbaugh store and a child’s sweater and dress from the J. W. Gitt store. Attorney George S. Love, York, appeared before Justice Sell in behalf of the defendants. Accepts Secretarial Post Miss Cora S. Wentz, Frederick street, has accepted the position of secretary to the Rev. John S. Tome, pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran church, succeeding Miss Treva Mummert, Baltimore street, whose resignation of the position will take effect tomorrow. Miss Wentz is a graduate of the Hanover High School in 192? and of the secretarial school of Boston University.
