Henry had four fingers torn from his right hand by having them caught in a meat grinder which he was operating at the Budesheim butcher shop at Seven Valleys, were he is employed, at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. He was grinding meat for bologna sausages and in feeding stuck his hand too far into the grinder. The machine was operated by power furnished by a gasoline engine which could not be stopped in time to save Henry’s hand. He pulled his hand from the grinder by main force, the flesh being torn to shreds and the bones cracked. Mr. Budesheim, working in the same room packing sausages, was attracted by his cries and hurried to his assistance. Henry had, however, jerked his hand from the machine before Budesheim could stop the engine. Mr. Budesheim took the injured man to the office of Dr. G. M. Fickes, who dressed his wounds temporarily. Passenger Agent Charles Klinedinst had the train passing through that place shortly before noon stopped, and the man was taken by Dr. Fickes and Mr. Budseheim to the York hospital, where the remaining bones of the four fingers were amputated at the knuckles.
