Abraham Hershey, cook at the American House, York, who had been suffering from a sore left foot, for about two months, had an operation performed up it a few days ago, when it was discovered the source of the trouble was a watermelon seed. As to how the seed became imbedded in the flesh is a mystery, but it is thought that the seed found its way into the foot about ten years ago, when Mr. Hershey ran bare-footed and worked in a melon patch The Hanover Herald – Saturday, August 9, 1913
