Peter D. Masenheimer, of Hanover, is charged with maintaining a nuisance in the shape of a veranda with roof, which extends out in front of his home, No. 406 Baltimore street, that borough, and the matter will be heard before Alderman Owen in this city this afternoon. Masenheimer is under bail for the hearing. The prosecutor is David Unger, a neighbor. It is claimed that Masenheimer is violating a borough ordinance of September 18, 1891, and that he is annoying the public by maintaining the objectionable porch, which shuts off the view of residents on the same side of the street. The prosecutor has engaged James G. Glessner, of this city, and T. F. Chrostwaite, of Hanover, while C. W. A. Rochow, of York, represents the defendant. The papers were served by Detective Stroman. This is the veranda for the construction of which Mr. Masenheimer obtained a permit from Officer Kiser, and was later told not to continue building the improvement until Council had considered the matter. Upon the advice of a York attorney, Mr. Masenheimer went ahead, and in record-breaking time the veranda was completed before 7 o’clock one morning several weeks ago.
