Miller and brother Jacob H. Miller, of Canton, Illinois, who came East to attend the funeral of their sister, Mrs. George M. Bucher, in this place, last week, are spending several weeks with relatives and friends in Hanover and vicinity. They are natives of York county, being sons of the late Jacob Miller, of Manheim township, and settled in Illinois over 40 years ago. Jacob Miller went West in 1871 and two years later, while on a visit East, took his brother George, then a young man, 20 years old, back with him. They were both employed at first in woolen mills in that section, later engaging in the restaurant business at Canton. At present George is living retired on account of ill health, and Jacob is conducting a bakery. The former’s last trip East was in 1910, after a lapse of about 20 years, and this is the first visit for the younger brother in 20 years. The brothers remarked that when they first went to Illinois, the farmers cut down and burned fine trees, many of them walnut, to clear and cultivate the ground, now, those trees would be worth more than all the farm products. They observed many great changes in Hanover. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, December 14, 1912
