Dr. H. L. Northrup, of the Hahnemann hospital, Philadelphia, assisted by Dr. C. F. Bortner and Dr. M. M. Fleagle, of Hanover; Dr. L. H Sterney, of Porters, and Dr. J. R. Brodbeck, of Jefferson, performed an operation upon Noah Sterner, aged 42 years, of York Street extended, on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Sterner had been to Johns Hopkins hospital, Baltimore, on two occasions to have the ailment diagnosed, and each time it was pronounced cancer of the stomach. The operation yesterday showed that the diagnosis was correct. The cancerous growth was found to extensive that the medical men performing the operation deemed it advisable not to remove any part of the effusion, as the condition of Mr. Sterner, who also suffers from kidney and liver trouble, would not permit it. No hopes are entertained for his recovery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, July 10, 1909
