ADAMS Former Hanoverian Died Suddenly at His Home in York. Word has been received here of the death of Edward E. Adams, a former Hanoverian, who died at his home in York about 5 a.m. Monday, July 3, following a brief illness, having been sick but three hours, from acute indigestion. He was aged about 45 years. The deceased was a son of the late John and Martha (Althoff) Adams and was born and spent most of his life in this place. He worked at carriage building for a number of years, later conducting a grocery store on West Hanover street. About four years ago he secured a position with the Prudential Life Insurance company and shortly afterwards moved with his family to York. As an agent he established quite a record and for the past two years stood first among the York agents in producing new business. Had his career not been cut short by death, Mr. Adams would evidently have advanced to an official capacity with the company. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Cleophia Smith, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, of McSherrystown, and the following children: Ruth, Edna, Catharine, Bernadine, Florence, Maurice, Bertha and Lewis, all at home. Also, by the following brothers and sisters: Wm. J. Adams, of West Hanover street; Mrs. Frank Lutter, of McAllister street; Thomas Adams, of York; Joseph Adams, located in Ohio; Lewis Adams, Mrs. George Lutter, Mrs. Conrad Lutter, and Miss Martha Adams, of Philadelphia. The remains were brought to Hanover Thursday morning, when a requiem high mass was observed in St. Joseph’s church, at 9 o’clock, the Very Rev. James A. Huber officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph’s cemetery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, July 8, 1916 [The 1910 census had his name as Edward A.]
