Vernon, Iowa, Jan. 26th, 1913, aged 91 years. Mrs. Albright was born Juliana Wortz, near Hanover, a daughter of the late Peter Wortz, and was married to Henry D. Albright, of this place, Dec. 22, 1842. Ten years later they moved to Iowa. Mr. Albright was a carpenter, and his brother, William, who accompanied them, was a mason. They went to Iowa City, and were persuaded to go to Mt. Vernon to work on the building of Cornell College. Both of them did work on the Old Seminary building, now known as Science Hall, and the Main College building. The two brothers also built the house Mr. Albright died in. This was Mrs. Albright’s home for over sixty years with the exception of from 1867 to 1871, which was spent in California. Mr. and Mrs. Albright were members of the German Reformed church but united with the Methodist church, and were devoted members through their life. During her earlier life Mrs. Albright was very active in all College and church affairs, but of late years has lived a retired life, owing to weakness subsequent upon old age. In earlier days all the residents of Mt. Vernon were called upon to make many sacrifices for Cornell, that it might be continued, and in these both Mrs. Albright and her husband did more than their share. Mrs. Albright retained her keen mental faculties to the last. She was the mother of seven children, five of whom survive her. Her husband died in 1894. The children are Louisa Manley, Perdide Beach, Ala.; Henrietta Pierce, Pueblo, Colo.; Imogen Stevens, wife of Professor Stevens, died in 1887; William E. Albright, Mt. Vernon; Lewis R. Albright, Pierre, S. Dak., and Ella Olmstead, Boone. Funeral was held on Jan. 28th, interment in Mt. Vernon cemetery. Deceased was a cousin of Mrs. Abner W. Forney and George W. Wortz, of this place.
