All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/york/ _______________________________________________ Joseph Altland After an illness of a few hours, due to a stroke of apoplexy Monday morning, Joseph Altland died that evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. N. Hess, South Belvidere avenue, York. He left his home in the morning apparently in good health and walked to the Hoke farm near the city. As he was going onto a field to work he became unconscious. The Royal ambulance was called and conveyed him to his home. Dr. Trieble was summoned and pronounced it a case of apoplexy. His condition remained unchanged until death ensued. The deceased was a native of Abbottstown, but has been for years a resident of York. His wife died about 15 years ago. The deceased was in his seventy-fourth year and is survived by the following children: Mrs. M. Graff, Mrs. N. H. Hess, Mrs. Paul Stover, John and Clayton Altland and Paul Altland, all of York; and Eli Altland, of Abbottstown. Several brothers and sisters and fifteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services Thursday evening at 7:30 at 30 South Belvidere avenue, York. Further services at Altland’s church, near Bigmount, Friday at ? a.m. Interment at Altland’s cemetery.
