He had been in failing health for several months. Death was caused by old age and complications. Mr. Anderson, besides being president of the Stewartstown Railroad company, was president of the Stewartstown Railroad company, was president of the Stewartstown Lumber company, treasurer of the Stewartstown Fire Insurance company a director of the Stewartstown Furniture company, of the First national bank of Stewartstown, a charter member of the Stewartstown Water company, a stockholder and one of the managers of the Stewartstown News, and for a number of years had been a member of the board of managers of the York County Agricultural society. he was identified with nearly all the leading and successful business enterprises and public spirited moments in Stewartstown and vicinity. Mr. Anderson was born in Fawn township on February 5, 1837, the son of Joseph R. and Elizabeth (Wilson) Anderson. His educational opportunities were only those afforded by the common schools, the greater part of his schooling being obtained at the Blue Ball school house in Fawn township. He continued to work the home farm and carry on a fertilizer business man, 34 years of age when he settled on his own homestead in Hopewell township. He continued to farm and conduct a fertilizer business for several years. In 1872 he engaged his interests, entering upon the manufacture of lumber, the bailing of hay and the threshing of grain. For some years he was extensively engaged in each of these enterprises. Mr. Anderson was married February 28, 1871 to Louisa Gemmill, daughter of Benjamin Gemmill. He had three children all of whom are living. They are Mrs. John Manifold, at whose home he died; Noah Anderson and Howard Anderson, all of Hopewell township. He also leaves a brother Reed W. Anderson, of New Park, and three sisters, Mrs. Alexander Wilson, Gatchelville; Mrs. Elizabeth Daugherty, New Park, and Mrs. John Brown, near Gatchelville. The funeral was held on Wed. from the home of his daughter. Further service was conducted at Centre Presbyterian church, of which he was a member and a trustee, burial was in the church yard.
