Bankert, 63, 1216 East Walnut street, died at 6 o’clock this morning at his home following an illness of several months but which had confined him to his home only during the past ten days. He was a son of the late Isiah and Mary (Stewart) Bankert. Mr. Bankert, in length of service, was one of the oldest employees of the Hanover Shoe, Inc., having started to work for the company at the age of twelve years. His service was continuous for approximately fifty years and he was one of the best known employees in the plant. He has worked in the bottoming department of the factory for practically his entire period of service. Mr. Bankert was a member of the Reformed church, and was affiliated with Hanover Lodge 237, Loyal Order of Moose. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Bankert; two son, Karl, Littlestown, and Ellis Bankert, address unknown; one step-son, John Baker, 1214 East Walnut street, a number of grandchildren and one brother, Elmer Bankert, Baltimore street. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the William A. Feiser funeral home, Carlisle street. The Rev. Robert C. Schiebel, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Biglerville, former pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, New Baltimore, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
