Mr. Britcher had been in failing health for some time, but was able to be up and about. He ate a hearty dinner on the day of his death, after which he walked in the garden at his home. In the afternoon he was seated in the out-kitchen when he suddenly fell to the floor. His grand-daughter, Mrs. James Zartman hearing fall, ran to his assistance and with the help of neighbors removed him to the house, where he expired a few minutes later. Mr. Britcher was a son of Jacob Britcher and was married about 58 years ago to Miss Mary Ann Miller, of near New Oxford, who died 23 years ago. He is survived by two daughters – Mrs. George Kuhn, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Charles Hively, of Manchester, Md. One brother, John Britcher, Hanover, eight grand-children and six great-grand-children. Deceased was a painter by trade but retired from the business a number of years ago. He was a ward constable in Hanover for several terms and Borough Health Officer for a period of five years, which office he held at the time of his death. He was also a veteran of the Civil War and a pensioner, having served as a private in Co. D., 202nd Penn’a Volunteers. Gettysburg Compiler – Wednesday, June 24, 1908
