Inebriety, Shuffles Off. Charles H. Burger, aged fifty-two years, committed suicide Wednesday afternoon by inhaling illuminating gas through a half inch tube in his room in the lodging house No. 122 North George Street, York. The body was discovered at 5 o’clock by Mrs. Miriam Leek, a chambermaid. Dr. William S. Weakley was summoned and pronounced the man dead. Burger, reported to be one of the best butchers in York had been employed for the past fourteen weeks with the York Meat and Provision Company, but was discharged Friday evening for being in an intoxicated condition. Since then he was intoxicated all the time. Several years ago he separated from his wife, Mrs. Annie Burger, and it is said that thought of his past life and loss of position are what caused him to take his life.
