CAMPBELL John Millard CAMPBELL died of pneumonia at his home in Red Lion, on Thursday, February 15th in the 72nd year of his age. There funeral took place on Sunday, services and interment at Red Lion. Pallbearers were: Benjamin JONES, Jacob SECHRIST, James KELLY, Samuel FREE, Harry ETTERS - Riddle Mr. CAMPBELL was a native of Chester county, but came to York county in early life, his parents living at Bryansville in Peach Bottom township. John M. was a painter and farmer and located in Chanceford twp, but six years ago moved to Red Lion. Mr. CAMPBELL was a veteran of the civil war. His first enlistment was at the age of eighteen. June 17, 1853, when he responded to the call of Governor Curtin to defend the state of Pennsylvania against the invading Confederate army. This enlistment was for a period of six months, and he served in Company B. First battalion, under Captain D. Z. SEIP. During the battle of Gettysburg his company was stationed at Chambersburg. At the end of six months he re- enlisted for three years in the same company, which was attached to the 187th regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, Army of the Potomac, where he served until the end of the war. In this command he saw considerable active service. His regiment took part in the siege and assault on Petersburg, June 16, 17, 18, 1864, where he was hit in one of his legs with a fragment of shell and wounded. He was nursed in a Philadelphia hospital and rejoined his regiment before it took part in the funeral of President Lincoln. Surviving him are his widow, and six children: Mrs. Mamie GRIM and Joseph R. CAMPBELL, Chanceford; Mrs. Alice E. KOHLER and Mrs. Pearl E. ANSTINE, Red Lion; James E. CAMPBELL, Chanceford and William W. CAMPBELL, Red Lion. There are three brothers and two sisters Samuel CAMPBELL, Plymouth, Pa; David CAMPBELL, York; A. Jackson CAMPBELL, Canton, Ohio; Mrs. J. W.
