All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/york/ _______________________________________________ Daniel Carter Daniel Carter died at his home in Pennville at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, from a complication of diseases, aged about 68 years. Deceased, who was born in Lancaster county, was married July 4, 1873, to Miss Amanda Wise, daughter of John J. Wise, of this place, who survives him, with one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Hamm, and four grandchildren. Deceased was a veteran of the civil war, having served three months in Company C, 5th Regiment Penn’a Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at Lancaster, April 20, 1861. At the expiration of this term, he re-enlisted July 5, 1861, in Company M, 1st Regiment Penn’a Volunteer Cavalry. He was honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1863, and re-enlisted as a veteran Jan. 1, 1864, in the same company and regiment to serve three years or during the war. Later he was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps. He was wounded in the hand in the cavalry fight near Bonneauville, at the battle of Gettysburg. He was a member of Major Jenkins Post, No. 99, G. A. R., and a pensioner. Funeral Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m., services at the house and interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Rev. J. W.
