Diehl, an auctioneer and war veteran, died Saturday morning at the Central Hotel, York, at which place he had boarded for over a year. He was taken sick Thursday with inflammation of the bowels and continued to grow worse until his death. He was aged 62 years and is survived by several sons and daughters. Mr. Diehl was known as an auctioneer and for years his services were in demand. Mr. Diehl served during the civil war in Co. C, of Cole's Maryland Cavalry. Although he was but a boy when he enlisted he was made Sergeant of the Company which was composed principally of residents of York and Adams Counties. He served under Gen. Stoneman and at the battle of Gettysburg was a scout with ten other members detailed from Co. C. He served four years and nine months in the army. Mr. Diehl was born and reared near Seven Valley, in North Codorus Township, and was an apprentice in the shops of J. & P. Flickinger, in this place, when he enlisted in 1861. His remains will be interred at Seven Valley, funeral to- morrow morning. Evening Herald, Hanover, York County, PA, November 9, 1903
