Eichelberger, a native of Frederick county, Md., and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home in Jeffersonville, Ohio, Thursday, November 13, at the age of 71 years. He served from August 13, 1862, till June 20, 1856, in the Sixth Maryland infantry Regiment, and was in many battles. Captain Eichelberger was a son of the late Joseph Eichelberger, one of the most prominent citizens of Creagerstown district, Frederick county, Md., and was the last survivor of eight children. Mrs. James L. Slaughter, of Westminster, is his niece, and George C. Eichelberger, of Union bridge, his nephew. He was widely known in Carroll and Frederick counties. His wife died five years ago. He is survived by three daughters and two sons, all residents of Ohio. Captain Eichelberger was a descendant in the fifth generation of Philip Frederick Eichelberger, founder of the Eichelberger family of this section, and who settled near Hanover as an immigrant from Germany in 1739.
