Forney died Sunday, August 29, at 10 a.m., at his old home, the Forney homestead, now occupied by his brother, Samuel H. Forney, at the edge of town, near Frederick St. His death was the result of organic heart trouble, from which he suffered for several years. The deceased owned a cattle ranch near Glasgow, Montana, but on account of failing health disposed of the same, several years ago and sought recuperation at watering places in the West. Realizing that there was no hope of recovery, accompanied by his brother, John W. Forney, of Steubenville, Ohio, with whom he spent several weeks, he arrived in Hanover about ten days ago, where his spirit took its flight Sunday morning in the home where he was born 58 years ago. George F. Forney was the youngest, son of the late Karl Forney, well known as a land owner, and among Hanover’s most prominent citizens in our early history. At the age of 22 years the young man went West and took up life as a ranchman, remaining there during these years during which he made but one visit home some years ago. Mr. Forney was unmarried, and is survived by four brothers – Robert Forney, of Oakland, California; William Forney, of Ogden, Wyoming, John W. Forney, of Steubenville, Ohio, and Samuel H. Forney, of Hanover, Pa. Funeral, Wednesday, Sept. 1, from the Forney home, where services were conducted at 2 p.m. Rev. Ellis E. Hay, of Emmanuel Reformed Church, officiating. Interment was made on the family lot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, September 4, 1909
