Hamm, 70, Hanover, retired veteran railway employee died in the Hanover General Hospital Saturday afternoon at 4:10 o’clock following an operation for a gall bladder condition. He underwent the operation Thursday. Mr. Hamm was a member of Patmos Lodge, No 348 Free and Accepted Masons, Hanover; Bethel commandery, Knights Templer Hanover. He was also affiliated with the Hanover Kiwanis club and the Hanover Home Association or Hanover aerie No 1406 Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Hamm served for more than 50 years with the Western Maryland railroad company, thirty three years of which he was freight and passenger agent in Hanover. He retired from active service September 30 last. He began his service with the traction company June 1, 1887, was telegraph operator at Hampstead Maryland. He continued in this position five years and then was transferred to Hanover as train dispatcher in 1892. After serving 12 years as train dispatcher he became agent at the freight office in 1904. He was the son of the late Jacob D. and Eliza (Rohrbaugh) Hamm. Surviving are his widow, who before their marriage was Margaret Weaver; seven children; George L. Hamm, York; Hugh K. Hamm, Hanover; Miss Julia E. Hamm, Hanover; John R. Hamm, New Oxford; Walter J. Hamm, Hanover; Robert F. Hamm, Hanover, and J. Donald Hamm, Wilmington Delaware; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild, one brother L.J. Hamm, Baltimore and one sister Mrs Maurice Flickinger, Hanover. Funeral Services Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the late home. Rev. Marsby J. Roth, pastor of Trinity Reformed church, officiating. Internment in the family cemetery at Porter’Sideling.
