All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/york/ _______________________________________________ Charles Hawkins Charles Hawkins, chief electrician at the Spring Grove electrical plant, a former school director and operator of the York telephone exchange, died March 23, in that place, after a two week’s sickness of typhoid pneumonia. Mr. Hawkins was a staunch Republican and, in addition to having served as a school director he was elected to the office of judge of election on several occasions. He was a son of the late Isaac J. Hawkins and a lifelong resident of Spring Grove. In time of service he was one of the oldest employes of the P. H. Glatfelter Paper company. Mr. Hawkins began his career as a paper maker in the old mills which stood on the site of the present home of Mrs. Amanda Glatfelter. When the electrical plant was erected Mr. Hawkins assumed charge of it. He held that position until death. He was 52 years, 3 months and 11 days old. Besides his wife, Ann Hawkins, one son, Harry E., and a daughter, Ethel, survive. Three brothers, James Hawkins, ex-Postmaster, H. H. Hawkins, George Hawkins, and one sister, Miss Minnie Hawkins, all of this place, also survive. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, April 1, 1916
