On August 21st, 1915, at 11:30 a.m. at his residence, No. 14 West Market street, D. Philip Heckert, aged 66 years, 9 months and 8 days. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Interment private in Prospect Hill cemetery. York Daily News, August 23, 1915 ----------------- D. Philip Heckert D. Philip Heckert, 66 years old, prominent lodgeman, fireman and for many years a plumbing and tinning merchant, died shortly before noon Saturday at the family residence, 151 West Market street. Death was due to apoplexy, with which he was stricken last Wednesday night. Mr. Heckert fell from a ladder in the yard at the rear of his home on Friday, Aug. 13, fracturing several ribs, and injuring the back of his head. He was apparently on the way to recovery under the attention of Dr. John A. Shower, when stricken last Wednesday night. Mr. Heckert was secretary during the past 42 years of Harmonia lodge, No. 858, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was also a Free Mason of high degree. When a young man Mr. Heckert joined the Vigilant Fire company and remained a member until his death. The bell in the tower of the Vigilant engine house was tolled this afternoon because of his death. For several terms Mr. Heckert served on the city school board, and for a number of years he was treasurer of Zion Lutheran church, South Duke street. The plumbing and tinning establishment at 151 West Market street was founded by Mr. Heckert’s father, and upon his death was taken over by the son. It is one of the oldest business enterprises in the city. Mr. Heckert is survived by his wife and two daughters, Miss Edith Heckert at home, and Mrs. Harry M. Saunders, of Goshen, Ind. Four grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. G. Albert Getty, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, will officiate if arrangements can be made to have him return from a vacation trip. Burial will be made in the family burial plot at Prospect Hill cemetery. The York Daily, August 23, 1915 ------------------ D. Philip Heckert The funeral of D. Philip Heckert, lodgeman, fireman and proprietor of a -inning(?) and plumbing establishment, who died last Saturday morning, was held yesterday at 2 o’clock at the family residence, 149 West Market street. The Rev. G. Albert Getty, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, officiated. The services were largely attended by ---een, lodgemen, relatives and friends. The active pallbearers were members of Harmonia lodge, No. 853, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which Mr. Heckert had been secretary for many years, as follows: Willis W. Gilbert, Elmer E. Ro---cher, Allen T. Neuba—and Eugene P---ner. Honorary pallbearers representing Harmonia lodge were as follows: G. Harry Stahle, Charles E. Kottcamp, John L. Snyder and Ulric Kirkwood. Representatives of Zeredatha lodge, No. 451, Free & Accepted Masons, were: Howard W. Lehr, John Voss, Charles Berger and Jacob K. Seacrist(?). Representing Continental assembly, No. 24, Artisans Order of Mutual Protection, were: Philip H. Schreiber, Gustav A. Weltman, William H. Miller and Charles Heiges. The Vigilant Fire company was represented at the funeral by Daniel Lloyd, Henry Horn, H. C. Ginter and Eli Emig. Burial was made in Prospect Hill cemetery. The York Daily, Wednesday, August 25, 1915
