JOSIAH D. HERSH, formerly of near East Berlin, died at his home in West York, 
last Tuesday after a lingering illness, aged 83 years and is survived by his 
widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Welsh, and two sons, Edward Hersh and J. Emory Hersh, 
York; one brother, residing in Spokane, Wash.  Mr. Hersh was a member of Company 
I, 26th Emergency Regiment in the Civil war.  He was captured at Gettysburg and 
held a prisoner during the battle.  He was a blacksmith by trade and was well 
known and liked for his jovial disposition.  Funeral was held on Saturday 
afternoon with interment in New Oxford cemetery.
