Houck, one of Hanover's oldest and most respected citizen died Friday 9th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jackson Craumer, on Baltimore Street. Death was due to paralysis, from which he had suffered for several months, being confined to his bed for about three weeks. He was in his 83rd year of his life. Mr. Houck was married to Miss Sarah Sterner, of Carroll Co, MD, Jan. 30, 1838, and is survived by one son Albert P. Houck, of Omaha, Neb. and one daughter Mrs. Jackson Craumer of Baltimore Street; also 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Houck had been a resident of Hanover for about 40 years. He was for a number of years a conductor on the Hanover Branch Railroad, but he is probably best known as a carpet weaver, which vocation he followed for many years. His wife died suddenly of paralysis on the morning of March 15th last, after which he went to reside with his daughter but the sudden death of one who for more than 60 years had shared life's burdens with him, was a great shock and he was soon stricken with paralysis. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house. Rev Dr. J. C. Koller officiated. Interment at Mt Olivet.
