H. Lau, who for more than half a century, had followed the trade of blacksmithing in this county, died suddenly at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emanuel B. Miller, in Spring Grove, of dropsy of the heart. He was aged 71 years, 11 months and 25 days, and was widely known in the county. For the past three years he had been living retired and made his home with his children and brothers and sisters. Prior to that time, for a period of eight years, he had been employed as a tool dresser at an iron foundry at Pottstown. Before that he had been employed for more than fifty years at various blacksmith shops in the county. His wife, Christiana Lau, died 22 years ago. He was a native of Stovertown, North Codorus township. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, at Pleasant Grove. Surviving him are four daughters and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Emanuel B. Miller, of Spring Grove; Mrs. Howard Senft, North Codorus township; Mrs. Wilson Smith, near Thomasville; Mrs. Edwin C. Leese, North York; Rolandus S., near Neiman’s; John S., of Baltimore, Edward, Potters; Frank, North York. Three sisters and one brother also survive. They are: Mrs. George Welsh, Sr., Spring Grove; Mrs. Michael Klinedinst, Stoverstown; Mrs. Jonas Rohrer, Melrose, Md., and Cornelius Lau, North Codorus township. Funeral from the Miller residence April 1, at 9 a.m., further services and interment at the Stoverstown Union church, Revs. J. J. Stauffer and Joseph A. Long officiating.
