Henry Loyer, aged 67 years, living with James Luckenbaugh and family, rear of York Street, near Five Points, met with a very sad fate Tuesday. Mr. Loyer was employed at the cigar factory of C. A. Sterner, rear of York Street. Tuesday morning he went to work as usual, preparing cigar wrappers. At noon, when he did not return for dinner, search was instituted but he was not found until 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, when he was discovered lying in a helpless condition between four large packing cases in the cigar factory. Dr. C. E. Bortner was summoned, who removed the unfortunate man to his boarding house. Mr. Loyer received a paralytic stroke, and fell between the boxes, where he remained in an unconscious condition for a period of 24 hours. William Henry Loyer died at the boarding house of James Luckenbaugh, rear York street, at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, following a stroke of paralysis received last Tuesday while at work in the cigar factory of C. A. Sterner, rear of York street. Mr. Loyer was rendered unconscious, in which condition he remained until the end came. His age was 67 years, 6 months and 6 days. The deceased was a former resident of West Manheim township and was twice married. His first wife, whose maiden name was Miss Alice Luckenbaugh, died in 1895. Two years after he married Mrs. Sarah Luckenbaugh, widow of John Luckenbaugh, who died in July, 1907. After her death he came to Hanover. He is survived by three sons, children of the first wife, Milton Loyer, of York; Charles Loyer, York street, Hanover, George Loyer, of Nashville, Tennessee; and one son and four daughters of the second marriage, as follows: Paul Loyer, of Mont Alto, Franklin county; Katie and Mamie Loyer, of Pleasant Hill; Minnie Loyer, of near St. Bartholomew’s church, and Beulah Loyer, of Penn street, Hanover. He is also survived by one step-brother, Jacob Loyer, of Paradise township, and two grandchildren. Funeral Friday, August 15, services at the house at 12 noon, Rev. S. L. Hench, of the West Manheim Lutheran charge, officiating, interment at Dubbs’ church. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, August 16, 1913
