Employes (sic) of the York Gas company are engaged in re-laying the underground gas main on West Philadelphia street, preparatory to the street paving which will be started within the near future in that vicinity. McGurk, with a number of fellow workmen, was cutting through the asphalt and as he delivered a blow with a pick onto the paving, he dropped to the ground. Fellow workmen carried him into the office of Strayer Brothers, grain dealers, West Philadelphia street, and the Western Maryland railroad. Dr. J. M. Gross, 706 West Market street, was summoned but before he arrived McGurk had expired. Upon examination Dr. Gross pronounced death due to heart failure. The coroner was notified and viewed the body later in the day. Undertaker Sleeger removed the body to their establishment where it was prepared for burial. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home of his daughter, Mr. (sic) John Repman, 343 Susquehanna avenue. Interment in Mt. Rose cemetery. The York Daily, August 23, 1915
