John Miller, aged between 55 and 60 years, who resides in Hopewell township, York county, about two miles from Muddy Creek Forks, came to York Monday morning with a load of tobacco, which he sold to Lancaster parties, and started for home about five o'clock in the evening. On the way home, on the powder mill road, two-and-a-half miles from York, he suffered rupture of the heart, by a fall from his wagon and died on the highway. Four ribs of the left side were broken by the fall. The deceased, who was a Bavarian, had $39.27 in money on his person, besides two open-face silver watches, pocket knife, memorandum book, pipe and some papers. He was a widower and leaves eight children – four of whom are married – and an estate worth eight or ten thousand dollars. Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, July 14, 1885
