Mitzel, 535 Prospect street, a coal, wood and feed dealer, was found dead in bed by Edward Boyer, an employee, yesterday morning at 7 o'clock. Death was due to inhaling illuminating gas, which escaped from a leak in a gas pipe in the cellar of the house. Mr. Mitzel lost his sense of smell some time ago and was unable to detect the odor of the gas. While seated on the front porch with neighbors last night, the odor of gas was detected and an investigation was instituted but nothing developed. Mr. Mitzel was alone in the house during the night. His daughter, Mrs. W. H. Seldan, and his son-in-law were in New York. The deceased was in the coal, wood and feed business and was in his 58th year. He was born in York county, a son of Adam and Mary Mitzel, both deceased. His wife died twenty-one years ago. He is survived by two children, Paul Mitzel, York, and Mrs. Maud Seldan, who with her husband, lived with him; three brothers, Jacob F. Mitzel and James E. Mitzel, both of York, and George W. Mitzel, of California; also one sister Mrs. Ella Brenneman, Springettsbury township, York county. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran church.
