Mitzel, Well Known Retired Commission Merchant a Victim of Heart Failure SONS SAW HIM FALL OVER William H. Mitzel, a well-known retired businessman, residing at 746 Prospect Street, died suddenly last evening at 6:30 o'clock at his home while standing talking with a friend in watching two of his sons, who are in the produce business, catch chickens for shipment. Mr. Mitzel was 58 years old, and up to last January was himself engaged as the commission merchant, when he sold out to his two sons, Morris and Ralph Mitzel, who had been conducting the business since then. Death was due to heart failure. Yesterday Mr. Mitzel appeared in the best of health and spirits, and during a part of the afternoon was engaged in conducting delegates to the Sabbath School convention around the city in his automobile. He just arrived home from his afternoon out and had placed his car in the garage at the rear of his residence and stopped to talk with a friend while the two sons were engaged in preparing a shipment of fowls today, he suddenly placed his hand over his heart and complained of pain there. He had no more than done this with his head fell forward on his breast and he slowly sent to the ground. Those sons went to their father's assistance and carried him into the house. Medical assistance was summoned but he expired before the arrival of the doctors. Dr. B. F. Posey and F. V. McConkey were summoned. During his lifetime Mr. Mitzel was engaged in the cigar business, conducted a grocery store for a number of years, and more recently was engaged in to produce business. For a period of 15 years he was identified in the manufacturer cigars under the firm name of Miller and Mitzel. He connected a grocery store for a period of 25 years in the 800 block on Prospect Street, and finished his business career Jan. 1 last, when he quit the produce business. Only last January was elected a director of the Freystown Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He is a member of the Chosen Knights No. 174, Knights of Malta, and York lodge, No. 47, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Religiously he was prominently identified with the Heidelberg Reformed church and was an interested Sunday school worker. Surviving him is his widow, Mrs. Frances A. Mitzel, and the following children: Morris M. Mitzel, John A. Mitzel and Ralph W. Mitzel, at home and Howard E. Mitzel, now enroute from St. Antonio Texas to Detroit, Michigan. It is expected that he will arrive at the latter place within the next two days. The latter son has been engaged in driving a truck for the government in the soldier camps on the border, and recently quit to go to Detroit, where he has secured employment at the same occupation. There are also the following brothers: Jacob F. Mitzel, James E. Mitzel, John W. Mitzel, the city; George A. Mitzel, Oakland Ca., and one sister Mrs. Ellen Brenneman, Springs Prairie Township. The date of the funeral has not been fixed yet, but interment will be made in Mt. Rose Cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. W. S. Kerschner pastor of Heidelberg Reformed Church.
